sarah & matt were married on hornby 5 years ago, surrounded by their families & friends, & now they’re starting their own little family. To celebrate, they gathered together sarah’s family at their lovely hornby home & we all went walking, on the beach & through the forest, to capture a little of the love they all share.
i’m oh so excited to meet the little who’s coming to share their journey. There’s a whole lot of love awaiting youView full post »

a hornby island elopement story…
valerie & doug wanted to get married, to speak out loud their heartfelt vows & promises to one another. And they wanted to elope, to have it be just about one another. And they wanted to do it somewhere beautiful, wrapped in the natural world where they spend so much time. They chose hornby island & their day was perfect. Sweet, simple, honest & heartfelt, indeed. They were married at the edge of the cliff, overlooking tribune bay. TheView full post »
jesse, kevin & ella came to visit hornby, bunked in next door & it was great having fantastic neighbours for a few days. Jesse is a dynamo, so full of energy & fun, a wonderful mom & a talented photographer amongst other things (check our her work here & her fabulous session with us here). It was great spending time with her & her little tribe, in the late morning sunshine.
& we hope their spring visit might become an annual event…

i had SO much fun photographing this fantastic hornby family.
karen & jed & their 2 littles are a fabulous part of our hornby community… they host easter egg hunts on their beautiful farm, hook up an incredible rig to tow all the kids around the neighbourhood on halloween & give a lot back to this place. We’re lucky to have them, as neighbours & friends. Jed bought karen this session for her birthday & so, lucky me, i got to spent the afternoon bathed inView full post »

my niece wrena is heading back out to the bush. Off tree planting for another season & joining up with an awesome company i worked with for many years, many years ago. There’s something wonderfully full-circle in all of that, for me. She’s a lover of photography, too. So she & i took a little time together to play, with the trees, by the beach, for the joy of it all.

it was about a year & a half ago when i received the sweetest message from nycky-jay. The beginning of a now cherished friendship… two photographers with same aged littles finding our way through the dance of our days. We were pen-pals for much of it (in the modern cyber-space way). And when we finally met in person, it was like getting together with a dear friend i hadn’t seen in a long time. Truth be told, i’m sure that’s actually how it is.
nycky-jay is theView full post »
it’s always a gift to be asked to photograph new babes. Those first few days or weeks with a new being in the world, family changes, deep love. And perhaps more so when it’s friends who invite me in to capture a little of their story, their new lives unfolding.
many thanks amanda & rob, nana & your littles, for sharing your afternoon with me. For these moments…

i’ve done this every year for the last few years… taken the time, early in the new year, to look back through the weddings i photographed the year before. And what strikes me most, year after year, is how absolutely grateful i am to the people who trust me to capture their wedding day in photographs. Who open their hearts & share their love & anticipation, kindness & caring, their friends & family, great food, fantastic dance moves, hilarious, heartfeltView full post »
new friends, a walk in the park. Their photography is as lovely as they are. You can see their beautiful work here.

it was the end of summer. I met with lea & andrew the day before their wedding to walk through the details & timing of their day. And it was pouring. West coast, soaked through, down pour kind of pouring. And they were calling for more of the same for the next day. It felt right, in a way, these two so used to being outdoors, in the elements – skiers, mountain bikers, outdoor adventurers. And it had rained at our engagement session (you can see that loveliness here). So all wasView full post »
brennan & ian’s day was amazing. A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.
i’m not surprised. When i first met them in victoria for their engagement session (check it out here) i knew i was in for an incredible ride on their wedding day. And i was. SO.MUCH.FUN. So much incredibleness. From the moment i arrived, i was bounced around in bubble of love & delight, full of laughter & celebration. It was a big gathering but everyone was so connected it felt intimate & easy. And they chose theView full post »
caitlin & drew are a bit of magic. Truly. They have a spark, intelligence, grace & enthusiasm that is a little mesmerizing & a whole lot of fun to be swept up in. And so was their wedding day. Celebrated at the laid-back splendor of seabreeze lodge on hornby island, caitlin & drew & their crew filled the island with their joy & kindness, leaving trails of love & wonder like footprints behind them. As caitlin’s mom so beautifully said in her toast to the brideView full post »
one of the strongest human connections i’ve witnessed is that of a couple newly parenting twins. Take two people, with their hearts wide open, push them to their limits of sleep deprivation & demand, & you have a knowing, an understanding, a pure, raw connection that is a blessing to witness. Thus are emmy & aaron. Forever changed by the wonders that are their beautiful daughters, finley & hazel. Dear friends, honest & brave & full of fun & so much caring. ItView full post »
