hornby island sunset maternity session
it was the height of summer. Hot beach days spilling into warm beach evenings, sand castles & conversations, swims & spontaneous suppers shared with friends. Long, lazy, restful days… when you’re on holiday, on hornby island. And all the more beautiful & precious when you’re wrapped up with your sweetheart, celebrating the growing little still tucked happily away inside. The last summer of life as a duo. I met up with charo &View full post »
lifestyle family session hornby island
joss grew up on hornby. And each summer – & many times throughout the year – she comes with her own little tribe to settle back into the home that grew her from child-into-adult-hood. I think to call it their 2nd home is an understatement… it’s their hornby home, as much a part of their family as the one they live in when not here. And for those summer weeks, they shed their active city lives & fall easily into the rhythmsView full post »
vancouver island beach side lifestyle family session
bobby & i met online. We’re both part of a blog – our littles collected – a group of working photographers who once a week post a photo of our littles. So we’ve seen more of each others’ kids than each other. The roots of an online friendship. Bobby was coming to victoria for a wedding & emailed to see if there was a chance i’d be down that end of the island the weekend they were there. And, as it sometimesView full post »
lisa & braden’s intimate vancouver island wedding
sometimes, even in the height of summer – when the sun usually shines hot & we seek the shade or the beach to cool ourselves – sometimes it rains. And sometimes it pours. And the earth gets a good long drink, the slugs come out & the world looks fresh again, colours drenched & vibrant in a mid-summer soaking. It was one of those days when i traveled over to royston on vancouver island to photograph lisa &View full post »
i met up with michelle & patrick & their oh-so-delightful girls for a vancouver island lifestyle family session at cattle point in victoria. The day started out stormy, the forecast was for rain & we had some back & forths about rescheduling. But they decided to pack changes of clothes, their rubber boots & brave the storm all together. And, as the weather often does, things changed… the winds settled, the clouds lifted & even the sun made an appearance nowView full post »
day-after celebration session | fine art documentary wedding photography – sunset wedding photos at the oh-so-stunning helliwell park on beautiful hornby island, bc.
emily & tyler’s amazing wedding at sea breeze lodge on hornby island (you can see their wedding photos here) went full tilt, full of fun & love, all day long. And the time they planned to put aside to drive out to helliwell for photos was spent, instead, celebrating with their family & friends. And so weView full post »
kailey & matt’s most epic & amazing bodega ridge wedding on galiano island, bc.
sometimes it’s hard to find the words. How to describe a wedding day, a celebration, a walk into marriage? And it’s like that for me now, with kailey & matt’s oh-so-fabulous bodega ridge wedding on galiano island. But 2 words do keep coming to mind… epic & amazing. When i think of the love that was shared, all of the laughter, the ease & elegance, the kinship & connectednessView full post »
hornby island wedding in the rain ~ emily & tyler’s beautiful rainy day wedding at the very lovely sea breeze lodge on hornby island.
most couples, when planning a summer wedding, plan on sunshine. They have a plan b, if the rains comes, but the aspiration is for sunshine. Same goes for emily & tyler. But when they woke up to rain, there was not a hint of cloudiness in their celebration. They were as bright & welcoming of their wedding day no matter what the weather brought.View full post »
a magical, very beautiful hornby island elopement.
it’s been a year & a half since jakub & jane decided to get married. To elope. To somewhere on vancouver island. A bit of a journey from their home in england. But they are travellers, these 2, & the west coast of canada was calling. About a year into planning, jakub contacted me about the possibility of photographing their walk into marriage. Emails & discussions followed, ideas about where to stay & where it feltView full post »
hornby island family beach photos with kathryn & her kids
i’ve had the sweet pleasure of photographing kathryn & her kids over the years, when they fly back to the coast, back home, to spend time with family wrapped in the quiet beauty of hornby island. Even in the whirlwind of summer here, the days feel longer, more stretched out, in the lack of scheduling, the ease of lazy mornings & beachy afternoons. The light in the early evening is divine – warm & welcomingView full post »
gulf island rustic farm wedding at the oh-so-beautiful outer island guest farm
emily & kyle have deep roots on hornby island. They have family here & a big part of their hearts live here, surrounded by the natural world they spend so much time exploring, & wrapped in the love of family. So it made perfect sense to hold their wedding celebration on kyle’s brother’s family farm. To have his sister-in-law’s father officiate, his niece & nephew carry flowers & rings, toView full post »
hornby island engagement
jason has a long history on hornby island. He has family here & it’s been a big part of his life throughout the years. And in the last years, he & kimberley have made it a big part of their relationship. And it was in the sandstone caves at fords cove that he proposed to her. And so kimberley wanted to have their engagement session there. A sweet time to celebrate the beginning of their journey into marriage, wrapped in the place that means so much toView full post »
hornby island lifestyle photographer.
he’s a bit of a rascal, our fur friend casper. From sweet to swatty without a lot of warning. And he & tess are good buddies. At times, still a little hesitant but they both seem ok with that. And definitely ok with spending time together in the warm summer sunshine.
life is good. For all of us.

almost 2 months ago, emi & i wandered around helliwell park, here on hornby island, she in full bloom awaiting the arrival of sila mei (you can see that session here). Her sweet little made quite an entry. And has been out here in the world for just over a month now. Yesterday, tess & i brought emi some supper – which is what families do here on hornby, for weeks, to make things a little gentler, a little easier when settlingView full post »

hornby island lifestyle maternity session
i met emi at her lovely hornby home, & after a visit with the baby sheep & their mamas, we spent an afternoon slowly walking around helliwell. The kind of sweet, easy walking that often happens with women in late term. When a lie down in the grass or a sit by the cliff edge watching the fish swim by & looking for cactus is welcome & there’s no need to keep an eye on the clock. The sun got low in the sky, the air was warm & itView full post »
hawaii destination wedding
From a sweet little island called hornby, nestled off the west coast of bc, to the amazing big island of hawaii, tamara & shannon & an ever growing gaggle of family & friends, left the rains of a west coast winter & landed, all smiles & sunshine, into pahoa to celebrate their walk into marriage. And what a celebration it was! When the day starts with the groom hacking up fresh coconuts to drink at a venue that is an actual palm sanctuaryView full post »
maui hawaii destination wedding
it was june when i received an email from jessica & nik. They were at the end of 6 months of traveling, hanging out in the salt flats in bolivia & searching for a wedding photographer with intermittent internet (at best) & no power at all (for days). All great for chilling out at the end of a long journey & a little challenging for online searching. And over continents & countries, through the magic of the www, they came across myView full post »

west coast wedding black rock resort
soon after love first hit alex & travis, travis went to work in ucluelet helping to build the new community centre there. And somewhere along the way, between the arrival of two sweet littles, a home bought & renovated, & travis’ work away from home, alex knew she wanted to go back to the west coast to get married. And so they did. At the gorgeous black rock resort. Just a 5 minute walk from the community centre where the foundation wasView full post »

rockwater secret cove resort wedding
leila & todd were on the sunshine coast & cruised by the rockwater secret cove resort while a wedding was in process. They looked up at the beauty of that place & leila said to todd, let’s get married there. And so they did. The late summer sun shone hot & welcoming as their family & friends gathered for a weekend to celebrate these two fabulous people & the love they share.
