sharalin’s hornby island lifestyle maternity session
my gentle, powerful, kind, determined, strong, open-hearted, oh-so-beautiful niece sharalin & her sweet little man, in the days before the arrival of their newest little. Wrapped in the warmth of hornby’s late summer sunshine & right here at our little cabin by the sea.
so much love to you all, my dear bean. Thank you. For all you are. With all of us. And for the gift of your 2 amazing little guys. And that fabulous big guy,View full post »
hornby island lifestyle maternity session with willow & joe & eddie.
it doesn’t seem that long ago that i photographed willow & joe’s epic walk into marriage – ‘wedding fest’ – right here on hornby. It was a great way to get to know these two amazing people. Since then, their lives have taken them to new zealand, joe’s home country & where willow trained & worked as a midwife for a couple of years. And where wee eddie came to join their journey. hornby island sunset maternity session
it was the height of summer. Hot beach days spilling into warm beach evenings, sand castles & conversations, swims & spontaneous suppers shared with friends. Long, lazy, restful days… when you’re on holiday, on hornby island. And all the more beautiful & precious when you’re wrapped up with your sweetheart, celebrating the growing little still tucked happily away inside. The last summer of life as a duo. I met up with charo &View full post »

i met emi at her lovely hornby home, & after a visit with the baby sheep & their mamas, we spent an afternoon slowly walking around helliwell. The kind of sweet, easy walking that often happens with women in late term. When a lie down in the grass or a sit by the cliff edge watching the fish swim by & looking for cactus is welcome & there’s no need to keep an eye on the clock. The sun got low in the sky, the air was warm & itView full post »
lisa & justin took some time away from their full busy lives to sink into some serious r&r here on hornby island & we met up for a maternity session. Beautiful evening light, warm ocean air, 2 fabulous people, 1 wonder dog, & a whole lot of love makes for some sweet times shared. Some wise little is growing up in lisa, getting ready for a life with these 2 fun seeking, world traveling, family loving individuals. I anticipate a whole lot of wonder & delight in theView full post »
The night before baby len’s arrival, ryan, midori & i walked around their fernwood neighbourhood in victoria for their maternity session. Late day, early evening, fading light, so much fun & laughter, anticipation & deep, sweet love. These two warm my heart right through. They are parents now, days later. Finding the groove of getting life done in few hour increments. All while falling deeper & deeper in love with their sweet love bug, lenny valentine. Photos ofView full post »
sarah & matt were married on hornby 5 years ago, surrounded by their families & friends, & now they’re starting their own little family. To celebrate, they gathered together sarah’s family at their lovely hornby home & we all went walking, on the beach & through the forest, to capture a little of the love they all share.
i’m oh so excited to meet the little who’s coming to share their journey. There’s a whole lot of love awaiting youView full post »
here’s a peak at a ‘bump to baby session’. Three different sessions – maternity, birth story/fresh 48 & a newborn session. This is hayden’s journey into the world…

it was nycky-jay’s due date. And we got together on saratoga beach to play with our littles & take a few photos of her beautiful full-term belly. And good thing we did… baby came just 12 hours later. I love that we have these last moments of her pregnancy captured, wrapped in the warmth of the spring sunshine & sand. Thank you, nycky-jay, for all of you. xo

it was about a year & a half ago when i received the sweetest message from nycky-jay. The beginning of a now cherished friendship… two photographers with same aged littles finding our way through the dance of our days. We were pen-pals for much of it (in the modern cyber-space way). And when we finally met in person, it was like getting together with a dear friend i hadn’t seen in a long time. Truth be told, i’m sure that’s actually how it is.
nycky-jay is theView full post »
emmy & aaron are dear friends. And they will be wonderful parents. Their wee ones are due in january. And i’m oh so excited to see who is coming to share their days. They are also the dynamic duo behind e/a photography. You can see their beautiful work here. So i was honoured & a little nervous when they asked me to photograph this amazing time in their lives. Our afternoon together was a lovely mix of fun & silly, heartfelt & tender, honest & real, just like emmyView full post »
i received this email from silk the other day & thought i’d share…
“jennifer, your photos of my pregnancy captured a very special moment in time, and turned it into art. Each image is like a window into the heart, illuminating all the love and excitement of that moment. Each is shot perfectly, intuitively, and edited so they burst with ripe, gorgeous summer light. They are simply exquisite, a treat for the eyes. I consider your photos a legacy of love and artistry for myView full post »
on sunday i traveled to alex & travis’ home in fanny bay. They are in the midst of a major reno, have had ben (their 3 month old & utterly gorgeous great dane) for only 3 weeks, & are just a week away from alex’s due date. And not a hint of stress anywhere. Truly, very inspiring. Wrapped in all of that was their ease & happiness for this new life beginning. And one of the sweetest connections i’ve had the joy to photograph. Many thanks to you both for sharingView full post »
it’s an interesting exercise to look back through my photographic year & see which photos jump out at me now. It changes day to day, i’ve noticed. And if i were to do this post next week, i’m sure it would look very different.
most often when i blog, i post with clients in mind… a selection of photos that will give them a taste of what we captured of their day, of our time together. And also what prospective clients may want to see – what photographs tell theView full post »

i am blessed to call her my daughter. Grateful she married an amazing man. So fortunate to now have a healthy, happy grandson. Thankful they’re both so patient with me – we photographed this lovely session in august, less than 2 weeks before baby k’s arrival. I love her more than i can say…View full post »
jules & ian. 36 weeks with twins. Late afternoon, some sunshine & delight. And olive.
and some kind words from jules…
“Jennifer, they are just wonderful! Ian and I just had a happy break from our frantic packing for tomorrow’s move to look at them : )
We kept saying, oh that one’s great! We can put it up in the babies room. Or maybe that one – or the next one…
Both of us are used to feeling pretty uncomfortable being photographed, and the resultsView full post »
